Torbay

Torbay is in the heart of the “English Riviera” in the South West of England. It’s one of Britain’s most popular seaside resorts with a beautiful coastline, great atmosphere and has the best weather in Britain. It is the perfect place for a holiday with historic sites going back thousands of years, as well as leisure activities and seaside facilities.

Our programs

A program designed for the whole family; while children learn and enjoy leisure time with activities and excursions, parents can enjoy free time or take an English course at our school as well.

JUNIOR Program

  • Weekday (tuition only, activities and food not provided).
  • Weekday (tuition and activities including 4 excursions - Monday to Friday).
  • Full week (tuition and activities including 5 excursions - Monday to Saturday).
  • Full week (tuition and daytime/evening activities including 5 excursions - Monday to Saturday).

20 lessons of 45 minutes each in group of 15 students maximum, with focus on a communicative approach in order to develop productive and perceptive skills.

ADULTGeneral English course

  • 20 lessons of 45 minutes each (15 hours) in group of 15 students maximum.
  • Every Monday (or the first Monday of the month if you are a beginner).

Develop your language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), improve your knowledge of grammar and learn how to use it in practice.

ADULTIntensive English course

30 lessons (22.5) hours of English lessons per week in two parts:
  • 20 lessons (15 hours) of General English.
  • 10 further lessons (7.5 hours) of communication skills, which may be with different students.

A group course which is ideal for learning everyday English with an emphasis on fluent communication and practical language skills. 

ADULT General English+ Business

30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week in two components:
  • 20 lessons (15 hours) of Standard General English in classes of max 15
  • 10 lessons (7.5 hours) of Intensive Business English conversation in classes of 6

Combines General English with Business English. This course is ideal if you want a mix of everyday English and to develop your specialist Business English language. A minimum level of B1 (Intermediate) is required for this course.

Summerhill Hotel

Just 10 minutes walking distance from the school; bedrooms with television, radio alarm clock, hairdryer and complimentary tea/coffee making facilities.

Host home

Carefully selected families, usually less than 45 minutes on foot or by local transport from LAL London, occasionally public transport is required. The family will provide bed linen and assistance with laundry can be offered, but reasonably priced local launderettes are also available nearby.

Note:

  • Bath and beach towels are not provided.

LAL propose the following types of activities

JUNIOR Half-day Fun excursion:

  • Woodlands Adventure Park: home of the UK’s biggest indoor adventure centre, with five floors of indoor frenzy rides & thrills as well as outdoor adventures. Admission to the Woodlands included.
  • Splashdown at Quaywest: Wet and Wild” With thrilling drop slides and exciting tyre rides. Admission to Quaywest is included.
  • Bowling: 1 game is included.
  • Cinema: Apollo Cinema on Paignton seafront to see a recent blockbuster. 1 film included.

JUNIOR Half-day Sightseeing excursion:

  • Tintagel: the legendary home of King Arthur, and the tiny fishing village of Boscastle, including time to enjoy a coast walk along the rugged Atlantic coast.
  • Land’s End: Land’s End, Sennen Cove, Marazion (for a view of St Michael’s Mount) and the beautiful town of St Ives famous for the Tate Gallery and the many artists who work around the harbour area.
  • Cardiff: the magnificent Severn Bridge for a full day trip to Cardiff, the vibrant capital city of Wales.
  • Plymouth: Devon’s beautiful maritime city of Plymouth, the largest city in Devon.
  • Exeter : Picturesque city in Devon, with its magnificent cathedral.
  • Dartmouth: Devon’s maritime town of Dartmouth set at the mouth of the River Dart in the heart of the beautiful South Hams.
  • Dartmoor: Dartmoor National Park set in a thousand square miles of natural beauty.
  • Brixham by Boat: historical port world famous for its fishing. Attractions include the Golden Hind – the ship of Sir Francis Drake, and the Napoleonic Forts and stunning views.
  • China Blue & Dartington: a chance to decorate pottery and visit the Hall and its gardens. 1 mug or plate to decorate included.
  • Newquay: on Cornwall’s Atlantic coast it is the surf capital of the UK with 7 miles of sandy beaches.
  • Bath: interesting sights and the stunning architecture of this unique city.
  • Bristol: the largest city in the west of England, with an interesting history and lots of attractions.
  • Coast Drive: a relaxing scenic drive along the beautiful South Devon coastline.

JUNIOR Half-day Culture excursion:

  • Powderham Castle: with six hundred years of history there is lots to learn about and explore.

JUNIOR Half-day Sport excursion:

  • Ice Skating: ice skating at Plymouth Pavillions indoor ice rink.

JUNIOR Half-day Nature excursion:

  • Paignton Zoo: the third largest Zoo in England with three thousand amazing animals housed in natural habitat. Admission to Paignton Zoo included.
  • Living Coasts: walking with the penguins, experiencing seals and various other forms of sea-life, birds and plants in their specially designed natural habitats. Admission to Living Coasts included.
  • Kents Cavern: prehistoric caves at Kents Cavern, where humans lived over half a million years ago and natural stalactites and stalagmites can be seen. Admission to Kents Cavern included.
  • National Marine Aquarium: the UK’s largest aquarium containing sea life from around the world, including more than 70 sharks. Admission to the pool included.

  • Essential London Walk: London’s iconic landmarks including; the London Eye, Big Ben, Downing Street, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus; from 8 £.

  • Madame Tussauds: taking photos with celebrities, sports stars, politicians and members of the royal family; from 37 £.

Sightseeing excursion:

  • Southbank Walk: London Bridge, The Tate Modern building, The Globe Theatre, National Theatre and South Bank Centre; from 8 £.
